UREA is known to exert a Proteolytic, Keratolytic, Hydrating, Hygroscopic, Penetration-Enhancing, Epidermis-Thinning, and Antipruritic Effect.

Topical keratolytic agents are widely used in dermatology to debride scaling and as penetration enhancers of agents such as corticosteroids and antifungals.
